March 5th 1:30pm Wake County Planning Board Meeting.. SHOW UP, SPEAK UP!
On May 7, 2024, the Garner Town Council adopted a resolution to pursue expansion of Garner's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). ETJ allows towns to apply and enforce their zoning and development regulations in unincorporated areas where they intend to grow. Only counties can grant ETJ expansion to towns.

The northwestern and northeastern parts of the Garner ETJ requested areas were approved by the Wake County Planning Board, and passed on to be reviewed by the Wake County Commissioners.
The Southern area of the Garner ETJ request was temporarily "paused" at the last Wake County Planning Board meeting after many questions, concerns, and feedback from the community. Continue to check back for updates.
